CONNECTING COMMUNITIES

Do you want to connect with other ski clubs in Yukon to get hints on how they do things?, invite them for a special event you are hosting?, or talk about visiting them to explore their trails? Below you will find introductory information about skiing in other communities and contact information.

Dawson

  • Recreation Department has offered a jackrabbit program in past years
  • Klondike Active Transportation and Trails Society: Our mandate is to promote active living through the creation of trails in the Klondike. We built the 9th Ave Trail as well as several trails in the Klondike and one in Tombstone.   But our main focus for the past 6 years has been the promotion of the sport of cross country skiing in general in our community.  To date we have:
    • Created the Moose Mtn.Cross Country Ski Trails - a small network of 7 to 8 kms. of trails on old mining exploration trails
      • Built a small warming hut on these trails
      • Facilitated grooming and track setting on these trails
      • Worked in partnership with the Dawson City Sled Dawgs to groom multi use trails on the Yukon River
      • Hold 3 events per year - Christmas Tree Ski, Full Moon Skis and Spring Ski Event

    Haines Junction
    • The St Elias Ski Club maintains the Forestry Trail system that is about 5km north of town on the Alaska Highway. For more information contact the club at steliasskiclub@gmail.com.
    • Note: In March 2018 part of the Silver Sled trail was trackset, St. Elias Ski Club will let us know if that happens again for this season!
    • FYI: The access and parking for the Silver Sled trail are about 5 km from the Jarvis river bridge on the left side of the Highway. The trackset goes all the way to the Telluride area (10-12km) and is an out-and-back trail.

    Old Crow
    • The 6th Annual Father Mouchet Memorial Loppet will hopefully take place in late March or early April 2020 in Old Crow - stay tuned!

    Marsh Lake
    • Plan to attend the Marsh Lake Loppet on February 8, 2020.
    • Marsh Lake usually has a Bunnyrabbit/Jackrabbit program that runs on Saturdays from 1-2:30pm, starting Jan, 2020 and running until March. Contact katharine.sandiford@gmail.com for more information.

    Mt Lorne
    • Ski the Mt Lorne trails adjacent to the Mt Lorne Community Centre.  They are fun trails and groomed through the ski season.
    • Mt Lorne Classic Ski Races are on February 15, 2020.
    • Mt. Lorne Community Association has a Ski Club for children and youth.  Please contact Agnes at the LMCA lmca@northwestel.net for more information.

    Whitehorse Cross Country Ski Club
    • The Whitehorse Cross Country Ski Club invites all Yukon schools and community groups to ski on the groomed trails of the Whitehorse Nordic Centre (Mt Mac).
    • Day passes cost only $2 each, if your group visits Mt Mac on a regular school day, as part of your school programming. That fee includes teachers and chaperones as well.

    Kwanlin Koyotes
    • The Kwanlin Koyotes Ski Club and Kwanlin Dun First Nation welcome skiers to use their trail system at no cost.  The trailhead is at the Koyotes Chalet on McLimon Rd, behind the First Nation offices. Skiers who connect onto the Whitehorse Nordic Centre trails must have a valid trail pass from the Whitehorse Cross Country Ski Club.
    • We will be skiing on the traditional territory of the Kwanlin Dun First Nation, using the Koyotes trail system and the trails of the Whitehorse Nordic Centre.
